New England Winter Magic

New England Winter Magic

Quaint New England is online magazine dedicated to exploration of New England and revelation of its hidden corners to our readers. Our goal is to capture timeless dimensions of this wonderful, historic, odd, curious, strange – quaint region.

Cities and towns across six New England States abound with people who pursue(d) most peculiar dreams, whether it be to build a house of newspapers, a castle with hidden alleys and rooms, or lose a house in an attempt to move it across a frozen lake. People have left numerous monuments to these eccentric pursuits: ruins, homes (some of them still haunted by ghosts – real or imaginary), museums, steps that lead to nowhere… Nature added some of her own: mountain ledges carved into human faces, never explained monsters, out-of-place boulders…

We give our readers an opportunity to dive into the past, but we also ask them to open their eyes to present. Behind many New England corners, beauty is revealed in mystery of most common things. Walk into an old bookstore in Vermont, or a country store in Maine and if you hang around long enough people will tell you most fantastic stories. New England is story-telling gold mine. Not for everybody, though, only for those willing to keep ears undistributed by the trivial noises of modern time, our time.

We would like you to read our magazine and enjoy the beauty of the region that way, but also we’d like it to become a guide to your travels. Most places from our articles still exist and visiting them will add mystery to your skiing, golfing, or leaf-peeping trip. Most stories will be accompanied with directions, maps, pictures. We also have a consolidated Map view where you can see geographical pointers to all places covered in our magazine.

Keep in mind, traveller, that these stories are half-told, we expect you to write the ending lines, and if you’d like to share your experiences with us, we’d be happy to share them with our readers. You can add a comment to any story (only light-weight registration needed), you can get in touch with us through Contact Us page.

Thank you reading our magazine!
